MARSDEN has certainly got talent.

For confirmation look no further than the summer show which will go on stage in the village next month.

This packed variety show is where you’ll get to see singing, dancing, comedy, music and even a touch of magic, all in one evening.

Each summer, the village’s operatic and dramatic society brings together company members to remind us of the those talents which put on major musicals and dramas in the village every year.

Once again the show is devised, produced, costumed and choreographed by Vivienne Payne.

When it comes to finding talent for the show, Vivienne didn’t have to look far.

Her daughter, Holly Comber has been wowing local audiences with her acting and singing skills for some time.

She’s just finished playing Mary Magdalene in a production of'Jesus Christ Superstar at Cleckheaton Town Hall and before that was widely applauded as Julie in Huddersfield Light Opera Company’s Carousel.

Holly’s brother, Chris was on stage alongside her in Carousel playing Mr Snow. But he’s well known to Marsden audiences as a regular performer with the Avalanche Dodgers.

Also helping out is the other member of the family team, Vivienne’s husband, Malcolm, who also assists her with all aspects of the show.

As well as her own family, Vivienne calls on the pool of talent which regularly helps stage musical and theatre shows in Marsden.

Audiences will recognise many familiar faces on the Parochial Hall stage plus some new ones as a variety of entertainment is provided by Ellen Ball, Al Bradford, Rachel Clegg, Katie Field, Alison Gibson, Dom Moccia, Al Muskett, Rob Pogson and Caitlin Ring.

Back this year by popular demand are the young duo High Jinx who have been wowing audiences countrywide with their circus skills and illusions.

No Marsden variety show would be complete without the indefatigable Doreen France who, despite a year that has seen her in and out of hospital, will be back on the Marsden stage.

Al Conway will be lending his own brand of humour to the evening as he comperes the show.

This cabaret style night is usually a sell-out. The dates are August 5 to 7pm. The show starts at 7:30 and tickets are available from Duncan’s Hairdressers, Warehouse Hill, Marsden telephone 01484 845311 (during shop hours)
