PLANS are well underway for next year’s 75th anniversary of Honley Male Voice Choir with a series of events leading up to the milestone.

The first is a variety concert set for next month and concert-goers can expect everything from classics to comedy – as well as the choral more associated with HMVC.

The popular choir will host the event at the village’s theatre on Southgate on Saturday, March 6.

Members will be joined by family and friends for the show and taking part will be many of the choir’s soloists plus comic duo Gina and Marina.

A group of women, as yet unnamed, will perform and there will also be the HMVC’s tribute to Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle, whose first appearance on the hit TV show was watched worldwide.

Two of the choir members – David Ellis and David Jagger – will perform a variety of silly songs at the concert.

Guest singer for the evening is Michael Hellawell, well known as a local bass/baritone who has performed with more of the leading light operatic societies in the West Riding area. He is also a leading man in Marsden Men’s pantomime shows – the well-loved Avalanche Dodgers.

Accompanists are Sue Ogden, the choir’s accompanist, choir MD Keith Roberts, along with Gordon Bamforth and Judith Helm.

Compere for the night will be Norman Mellor who said the audience can expect a few good laughs on the night.

He added that it was one of a series of events leading up to the choir’s 75th anniversary next year.

The show starts at 7pm at the Southgate Theatre, Honley.

Tickets are £7 each and are available from Norman Mellor on 01484 851060.
