CATHERINE Williams, the much respected founder and musical director of Vocal Expressions is stepping down after leading the singers for more than 13 years.

Catherine, who started the choir and has been its conductor since the outset, is leaving the choir for family reasons.

“It has been a wonderful time,” said Catherine.

“They have been great and I have made many friends among the choir members. I will be sorry to leave and will miss being part of the choir.”

But there is little doubt that Catherine will always be held close to the hearts of Vocal Expressions’ members who now have the difficult job of finding someone to step into her shoes.

This is an established ladies choir and what they are looking for is a dynamic and creative musical director to continue the work that Catherine has done.

The choir is based in the Holme Valley and has about 50 singers who it says are dedicated, talented and ever ready to take on new challenges and perform to a consistent high standard.

“Under Catherine’s direction, we have established an excellent reputation, recording three CDs and performing concerts locally, nationally and occasionally abroad,” said a choir spokeswoman.

“Our repertoire is extensive and covers a variety of genres.“

The choir wants someone with experience in choral technique and vocal training.

“They will also be expected to maintain the high standards and discipline currently demonstrated whilst ensuring their commitment to the choir’s long term development,” said the spokeswoman.

“We are also looking for someone to enjoy the social aspects of the choir and build a rapport that goes beyond the direction of music.”
