FRESH favourites Soul Circus have strummed their way to a coveted slot at the Leeds Festival.

The unsigned indie band – whose guitarist Paul Wainwright went to Huddersfield University – were one of six bands to win places at the Bramham event through the Futuresound battle of the bands competition.

More than 300 bands entered the contest and last week the Morley based five-piece were selected as runners up at the 40 strong heats at Leeds venue The Cockpit.

They will now play the BBC Introducing Stage at both the Leeds and Reading festivals at the end of the month.

They will be joined by Halifax math rockers Wot Gorilla, Wakefield trio Runaround Kids, and Leeds bands Blacklisters and ClubSmith.

The overall winners were Leeds based Kasiuss who will open the Festival Republic Stage at both sites and took home the £500 cash prize.

Soul Circus are now set to release their debut EP Artists and Artisans in October and are heading out on their first UK tour.
