EVERY so often, an outspoken, outrageous and in-your-face band comes along to inject some fun into the music industry and make sure it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The latest band to do this are The Dolly Rockers, three fun, feisty females who are taking the radio airwaves by storm.

Brooke, Lucie and Sophie – who's from Leeds – may be just 20 but they know how to cause a stir, whether it's gatecrashing Trevor Nelson's 1Xtra show or taking over a model village in Devon for a photoshoot.

Everyone is talking about The Dolly Rockers, from Radio 1 to The Times and Hollywood gossip guru Perez Hilton.

But they are more than just hype. The girls are serious about making music which, while it may be fun, is not just fluff.

They take inspiration from everyone from The Spice Girls to indie band Blur, Depeche Mode and old school clubbing anthems.

Sophie said: "We don’t feel we have much in common with manufactured girl bands. Pop music to us is Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Mark Ronson."

Their first download only single Je Suis Un Dolly received good reviews but they hope to prove their worth further with their first full single release, Gold Digger, on August 31 with Parlophone records.

It's dancefloor friendly pop will a vicious lyrical attack on kiss and tell girls with plastic boobs and hair. A catchy floor filler and social commentary all in one, if you will.

The Dolly Rockers are anything but diplomatic and predictable – they're as likely to snog you as happy slap you – and are unafraid to say what they think, to anyone.

It's this refreshing honesty and sense of daring which is winning them fans.

If you want to check out the Dolly Rockers experience, you can see them on tour during July and August.

Dates include Party In The Park at Leeds on July 26, Sheffield Leadmill on August 27 and Sheffield University on September 25.
