Huddersfield musicians are heading south to one of Yorkshire’s biggest music festivals.

Almost a dozen of Town’s finest bands and DJs are set to appear at Bomfest near Barnsley.

The festival at Worsborough Mill and Country Park boasts eight stages in total with the main stage headlined by former Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley.

Acts including Mr Shiraz, Extra Curricular, Sons of Mischief, Ben Marron, The Cadava Dogs and Dan Gallo will perform in the Half-Cut Radar Marquee.

The stage has been curated by Huddersfield-based Half-Cut Promotions and will also feature rising Leeds stars Middleman, London’s Ten Bears and Manchester’s The Feud.

Other local performers making the short trip to South Yorkshire are DJs Psychotic Reaction v Co-Co, Keon and Norty, Space Kuggies and Tension/V-Kidd and guests.

Half-Cut boss Hannah Quarmby, said she had been personally approached after her team launched rock nights at Barnsley gig venue Lucorum.

The company has also previously done promotion for The Cornerhouse (now The Parish) and in 2007 was asked to put together Kirklees Council’s People’s Party at St George’s Square.

Hannah said: “It’s a big coup for us to get this and we have been given a stage next year on the strength of what we have achieved.

“We were given the task of pulling a bill together in two weeks.

“We had no budget and have had to rely on the fact that we have a strong reputation for showcasing quality music.

“Most bands we contacted chose to jump on board straight away as this is a great little festival and is set to expand over two days next year.

“This time we have tried to showcase acts from five different genres of music.

“The day kicks off with a great reggae set hosted by Dewsbury’s DJ Galvatron from the Circus in Huddersfield.

“He has a strong following and contacted us at the last minute to see if he could be of use.

“The acoustic afternoon sessions feature an array of talented acts and the teatime sessions kick in with the hip-hop urban dance vibe.

“This will showcase some of the best emerging talent and will be headed up by one of Huddersfield’s finest Extra Curricular, who will play a stripped back set in our marquee before they feature on the main stage later.

“The indie alternative sessions kick into play with the Runaround Kids and Piskie Sits and then one of Huddersfield’s hottest acts Sons of Mischief.

“The Feud, who have just come back from a tour with Muse, and the much loved Middleman will take it up a notch in the later part of the evening while Hudds faves Mr Shiraz will help complete the final vibe in the marquee.

“Then Psychotic Reaction DJs will take on Co-Co from Leeds to play us into the early hours with some retro tunes and a Northern Soul vibe.”

Half-Cut Promotions are also raising money for a terminally sick girl from Sheffield and a signed A3Šgig photograph of Jon McClure from Reverend and The Makers taken by gig photographer Mark Tighe will be up for auction along with other band merchandise.

Half-Cut are also looking for a media student to film the event and a presenter. Tel: 01484 540517.
