SUMMER is almost upon us and that can only mean one thing for Huddersfield bands – the annual competition to win a place on stage at Leeds and Reading Festival!

The contest, run by Leeds based promoter Futuresound offers one band a slot on the Festival Republic Stage at both festivals alongside the likes of Pete Doherty and the Horrors. The five runners up will get the opportunity to play at both festivals on the BBC Introducing Stages which in previous years has always showcased the best in new bands.

The competition is now in its 11th year and last year saw a huge amount of top quality entrants with Halifax band Wot Gorilla being one of the bands selected for the BBC Introducing stage alongside the likes of Kasiuss, Club Smith and Blacklisters.

The competition will take place on 10 dates running from the end of June and over the course of July featuring a four band line-up each night.

Each gig will be judged by three judges from within the Leeds music industry.

Full details, conditions of entry and application forms can be found on www.thecockpit.co.uk.

The deadline for entries is Friday, June 3.
