HARD rocking students from Huddersfield have hit the reset button in a bid to do better in 2011.

Guitarists Robin Burberry and Tom Caunt and drummer Martin Guy have formed a new band – Tattered Bravado – in the hope of getting higher up the rock ‘n’ roll hierarchy this time round.

The trio of Huddersfield University music students gigged around the North as CobraKiss last year but called it a day after their singer left town.

“Our old band died and we decided we didn’t particularly like the music,” says Tom.

“It was cheesy.

“So me and Robin put a new band together.

“We found a new singer from Sheffield and a new bass player.

“The new music is a bit grungy, a bit more influenced by Soundgarden, Slaves To Gravity, Alter Bridge, a bit more modern I guess.”

The five piece are already cramming in the gigs and have entered a tough contest to win a support slot with Welsh emo kings Funeral For A Friend.

Robin said: “We’re thinking about planning a summer tour and we’ve got eight other gigs booked this year.

“We’re playing a battle of the bands for a chance to support Funeral For A Friend at The Black Flag in Wakefield, which is a 1,000 capacity venue.

“We’re working on building up a bit of a local following first so that people have actually heard of us.

“Some band came over from Europe to play my hometown in Prestatyn in Wales and there was no-one there, I don’t really see the point in that.

“And we’ve already got a festival slot booked at Manchester Rocks at Longfield Live.

Tom said: “The gig we played the other day went down really well.

“Everyone came down and had a good time.

“We’ve got an EP that we’re off to record later this month so that’ll be out in early February.

“So far we’ve got seven or eight original tunes and a couple of covers in there for the time being.

“Hopefully we’re going to try and do some good stuff in the summer because we’re all finished with uni and we don’t want to have real jobs!

“Everyone should come to our gigs because even if you hate the music we have great parties afterwards.”

Tattered Bravado are playing The Parish tomorrow night and The Black Flag in Wakefield on January 12.
