SYMPHONIC rock outfit Delain are heading to Leeds following the release of their album April Rain.

The dutch group are the brainchild of keyboardsman, Martijn Westerholt, brother of Within Temptation’s guitarist Robert Westerholt, and began as a musical collective of guest musicians.

After demand for live shows grew Delain became a ‘real band’, comprising Westerholt on keys, Ronald Landa on guitar, Rob Van Der Loo on bass, Sander Zoer on drums and fronted by the fiery-tressed Charlotte Wessels.

Westerholt said he was looking forward to the upcoming mini UK tour after long term glandular fever forced him to quit Within Temptation.

He said: “It may sound like a cliché, but it’s the music that really gives me a massive amount of energy.

“Touring still is quite challenging for me, but at the same time I really get a health kick out of it, so over the coming months I’d love to play as many places as possible, especially those where Delain has not played before.”

Meanwhile the band is already working on their next album, before ‘April Rain’ is even out of the starting gates.

Delain play Leeds Rios on Thursday, March 25.
