It is a well established choir with a strong sense of community.

Which is why like many choirs, the Holme Valley Singers devotes a good deal of its effort to raising money for charity.

The Singers have just handed a cheque for £200 to Gina Fielding from the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice after a concert in Holme Sunday school.

The children’s hospice is the choir’s nominated charity and this was just one of the many fundraising events that it has been involved in this year.

Money has also been donated to the charity following regular fundraising by the choir members plus concerts and events.

Holme Valley Singers Musical Director Kim Kaye said: “We’ve got a real strong community here in the Holme Valley and people are happy to give to worthy causes when they can.

“Part of our constitution is to collect for local charities. “Following the success of this year’s fundraising, we’re going to continue to support the Forget Me Not Trust throughout 2014 and we hope to announce more concerts and events in the near future.”

The Singers were founded in 1975 by Alan Simmons who was then Head of Music at Holmfirth HighSchool.

Today it has about 40 members and still rehearses on Tuesday evenings at the High School. It is always looking for new members especially tenors, baritones and basses.
