HARD rockers The Liberty Slaves are shooting up the rock rankings after they secured a gig with glam metal legends LA Guns.

The Huddersfield band will take to the stage to support the Americans at Bradford’s Rio’s venue.

Formed by guitarist Tracii Guns, the LA Guns emerged from California’s LA scene in the 1980s and in the early days were fronted by Axl Rose, who went on to form Guns ‘n’ Roses.

In 1987 at the height of the glam metal scene and with new singer Phil Lewis on board they were signed to Polygram records and their self titled debut album went platinum.

Their next two albums also sold more than a million copies before numerous other lineup changes saw the band fall out of the limelight.

Liberty Slaves guitarist Mark ‘Slug’ Gibb said they were over the moon as the 80s stars had personally invited them to play.

He said: “We heard they were coming to Bradford and so we put our name forward.

“They got back to us and they’d listened to our stuff and said they loved it.

“They liked the style and they liked the music that we do.

“That’s a big compliment and we’re totally stoked about it.

“These big bands don’t have to listen to us or be bothered about who supports them.

“We’re over the moon and very excited as it’s one of the biggest rock bands that we’ve all admired and respected over the years.”

Four other bands have also been lined up to support the LA Guns, including the Gypsy Pistoleros, Venrez, Karma Slave and Beretta Suicide.

The running order has not been decided yet but Slug said the gig would be starting early so that all the bands could have a decent length set.

He added: “It’s quite important and a big show, it’s going to be a great show.

“We’re working hard to make sure the show’s going to be a memorable one and we’ve got some new tracks that we’re going to be playing.

“Anybody that comes down is guaranteed to have a good night, not just from us but from all the bands.”

LA Guns are playing Bradford Rio’s on Saturday, June 18. Doors 5pm.
