LEEDS indie group I Concur have made their first single release.

The release of the double A-side, Lucky Jack / Build Around Me, on March 10 was also a first for new Leeds-based experimental label Brew Records.

The single has been released on download through iTunes and on 500 copies of 7” vinyl.

Lucky Jack is based on a heroic voyage made by literary creation Captain ‘Lucky’ Jack Aubrey and Build Around Me tells the tale of the Pennine farmer who refused to leave his house, causing the M62 motorway to be build around it.

While I Concur may be inspired by stories lyrically, musically they take their lead from mid-west American style indie.

Singer Tim Hann, drummer James Brunger, bassist Toby Page and guitarist Chris Woolford – a former Huddersfield University student – formed the group at the end of 2006, thanks to a shared love of alternative Americana and instrumental post-rock.

They performed their debut gig together in January 2007 at The Packhorse in Leeds and entered last year’s Futuresound competition, at The Cockpit. They missed out on the prize – a slot at Leeds Festival – but busied themselves supporting bands including American rockers The Hold Steady, indie-prog group Youthmovies, London band The Duke Spirit and Scotland’s The Twilight Sad.

Last June, they self-released their debut EP, Whatever It’s Going To Be. One of the EP tracks, Decimal Places, was featured on compilation Out Of The Woods And Trees, released by Leeds label Dance To The Radio.

The compilation featured tracks from Yorkshire bands including ¡Forward Russia!, The Pigeon Detectives, Snowden and Howling Bells.

While the American style is still at the root of what I Concur do, the new single shows how they have developed over the past year and sees them evolve this sound into something slightly heavier, with tinges of My Bloody Valentine.

I Concur have recently finished recording a follow-up with producer Tom Woodhead, who is vocalist in iForward, Russia!. The result will be released this summer.
