His electro-rock group Kava Kava have enjoyed success around the world.

And singer, Pat Fulgoni, is now enjoying a side-line in splitting his influences with some very different collaborations.

While music has continually fused genres, Pat, who has also organised Yorkshire showcases at the SXSW Festival, is currently in the middle of two projects at the diametric opposite ends of the popular musical spectrum.

His vocals are currently being used on Radio 1 backed drum ‘n’ bass track All Night by Austrian duo Camo and Krooked while at the same time he is fronting a new ‘psychedelic Kraut-rock’ group with Chris Cornell and Captain Beefheart guitarist, Gary Lucas.

Pat said his eclectic tastes were allowing him to work on a diverse range of projects.

He said: “If I go into a record store I really don’t know which section to look at.

“I really like my rock, blues, jazz, dance music, drum ‘n’ bass, and hip–hop.

“I love it all – as long as it’s good.”

The vocals for Camo and Krooked come six years into Pat’s link-up with dance label Hospital Records.

He said: “It’s not the first collaboration I’ve done with them.

“I did their breakthrough single, a track called Turn Up The Music.

“Radio 1’s Annie Mac put it on a CD and it was a really big tune in that world.

“They came to do this album and the label were very keen on me doing some vocals to give it a soul vibe and it’s done rather well.

“It’s been hammered on the radio so I’m quite chufffed.”

Meanwhile at the other end of the scale, Pat said he was enjoying airing his ‘freakier’ influences with such a legendary guitarist.

Gary Lucas’s CV includes working with Jeff Buckley, Chris Cornell, Nick Cave, a Grammy nomination and inclusion in Classic Rock magazine’s 100 greatest guitarists.

Pat said he was honoured to link up with the American.

He said: “Gary is a bit like myself in that he does a lot of work in the Czech Republic.

“There’s a really good psychedelic scene going on in the Czech Republic and a lot of blues as well.

“I’ve actually done a solo blues album out there and been on breakfast TV and all that.

“We met through a studio we both use out there and we’ve collaborated on the odd track here and there over the years.

“The last blues festival I did he came on and did a guitar solo on something.

“We’re going to use an album from 15 years ago called Ghosts of Prague and breathe some new life into it, but also record some new tracks for a new project.

“It’s very different from drum ‘n’ bass obviously and it’s a big jump from Kava Kava.”

All this comes amid a host of performances booked for his own electro-rock group Kava Kava, including headlining the music stage at next month’s Festival of Light at St George’s Square.

Kava Kava’s recent interesting gigs of note include performing at the World Stone Skimming Championships in Scotland and alongside Underworld at the Open Air Festival in Prague.

Catch them performing at the festival’s music stage on King Street on Saturday, December 7.
