Friendship, unity and never a dull moment.

It all adds up to a whole lot of fun and that’s just how Marsden-based female choir Unityvoices, would describe the last 21 years.

The choir was founded in December 1992 to support a children’s Nativity play.

The young mum’s choir, as it was originally known, has now come of age and many of those children are now parents themselves!

To round off what has truly been a celebratory year Unityvoices is holding a concert to mark their milestone year.

It’s at the Parochial Hall, Marsden on November 23 at 7.15pm and will be followed by a social gathering.

Unityvoices’ repertoire includes folk, pop, protest, tribal and ethnic sounds, some of which are accompanied by the group’s musical director Shelley Aldred and guitarist Tony Sprawson. Some are sung a cappella.

During its 21 years, the choir has released a number of CDs and raised hundreds of pounds for both local and national charities.

Unityvoices is very much community based and performs in Marsden at festivals such as Cuckoo Day, the Jazz Festival and Christingle.

At this milestone concert, the choir will sing a varied programme of old and new songs.

It will also give the first performance of a song especially written by Shelley Aldred and Stuart Comins which celebrates Unityvoices’ special bond.

There will be guest performances from Mucipups, Marsden’s own ukulele club and Running with Scissors.

There will be no entrance fee but a donation will be welcome.
