IT’S all change this month for Huddersfield rock pop group Rigsby.

Not only have they signed a deal with London management company Mighty Music Management, they have also changed their name to Kites.

The five-piece were snapped up by Mighty Music Management at a recent gig at the Bar Academy in Islington.

Mighty Music Management is headed by industry professionals Jo Mirowski and Charlie Presburg.

Huddersfield-born Mirowski is a former pupil of Royds Hall Grammar School at Paddock and studied art at Huddersfield Technical College.

He now lives in London where he founded and also heads up Mainartery Design Consultants. In the past, he has worked with artists as diverse as Paul McCartney and Placido Domingo.

He said: “I am thrilled and excited to be working with a band from my hometown.”

The deal is a major leap for Kites, who have enjoyed a fast-growing reputation thanks to their catchy pop hooks and tight live sets.

As Rigsby, they have played at events including Guilfest and Leeds Festival, with regular radio airplay and tracks featured on TV music channels.

The group formed in 1996 when singer James Trevelyan, guitarist Anshul Kapoor, keyboard player Alex De Boer, bassist Simon Fitzpatrick and drummer Greg Sykes met at Huddersfield University.

Anshul and schoolfriends Alex, Simon and Greg met on campus, got drunk one night and by the morning Rigsby were born. James was brought in later after housemate Anshul heard him singing in the shower!

After years of gigging, they released their first single Farewell To The Stranded on August 31 this year on the Avnon Music Group label.

They also put out debut album Rising and have had tracks played in the SBN Network chart and had one of their demos, Mystery Machine, featured on a season finale of Channel 4’s hit series Teachers.

This autumn they departed to try their luck on the London scene and it appears to have paid off.

Their profile is only set to go up in early 2009, when they will release a three-track single and an album later in the year.

If you want to find out more, you can catch Kites at Huddersfield University on December 12, supported by Yorkshire group KINCH.
