Keep up the good work!

That was the message which came through loud and clear from two members of the famous Osmond family, when they lent a helping hand to young deaf musicians yesterday.

Seventies heartthrob Merrill Osmond and son Justin, who is a profoundly deaf violinist, visited Music and the Deaf in The Media Centre, Huddersfield.

They met young deaf musicians Tom Johnson, of Holmfirth, Keir Fenton, of Jackson Bridge, and Cheshire-based Kamelie Green.

The Osmond father and son listened to them play and offered words of advice and encouragement to organisers of the charity to continue their work with the deaf.

Paul Whittaker, founder of Music and the Deaf, which has helped nine million people with impaired hearing enjoy music, said: “I think Merrill and Justin enjoyed their visit. There are not many modern ‘popettes’ who will have as long a career as the Osmonds.

It was good to see them again and we are all looking forward to the concert on Sunday.”

A Night to Remember fundraising gala will be held at Leeds Grand Theatre at 7.30pm on Sunday featuring a line-up of famous showbiz names, including the Osmonds. Proceeds will go to The Hearing Fund UK, whose 2013 charity partner is Music and the Deaf.

Ticket prices start at £20 and can be bought from the box office on 0844 848 2700
