THE founder of Huddersfield’s Timeless Festival is appearing in a training video for young people hoping to enter the music industry.

Pat Fulgoni has contributed interviews to the video, which is part of a national campaign by Young Enterprise scheme Quickstart Music.

The aim of the scheme is to offer 14 to 16-year-olds advice and insight into different roles within the music industry.

Also taking part in the video are people from major record labels EMI and BMG and legendary promoter Harvey Goldsmith.

In the video, Pat talks about what was involved in promoting the Timeless Festival, which used to took place every September.

The festival was set up in 2002 to help bond the community and give disaffected youth in Huddersfield something to focus on.

It was designed to appeal to underground youth culture and featured acts including The Selecter, Panjabi Hit Squad and Lo Fidelity Allstars, plus rising local stars.

Pat said: “Young Enterprise contacted me after hearing about our local efforts with the Timeless Festival. I guess it shows that even though we have not been successful in securing the necessary local funding to stage the free Timeless Festival for a few years, the reputation is still there and that’s got to be a good thing for the area.”

The festival has not been held since 2005, after initial funding ended and organisers were unable to find another source of cash.

Pat also talks in the video about the scheme behind the Timeless Festival – the Timeless Music Project (TMP), which runs a community record label and promotes new talent from West Yorkshire.

He also discusses how to choose a name for your business. As well as working on the Timeless scheme, he has his own record label, Chocolate Fireguard, and sometimes uses its international links to help promote and distribute Timeless Music Project releases.

The label also puts out material from many local bands, including Pat’s dance funk group Kava Kava, with which he is the vocalist. The band have toured China, the USA and Eastern Europe and Pat has recently ventured into drum ‘n’ bass circles, singing for London label Hospital Records and artists Nu:Tone and London Elektricity.

He said: “I was happy to help out with the video, from the perspective of someone who performs, runs a label and project manages the TMP.

“It proves that Huddersfield festivals and the town’s excellent music scene are being taken seriously. You have to laugh that we are discussing events like Timeless Festival in the good company of Harvey Goldsmith!”

It is not the first time that Timeless Music Project has attracted national attention.

Last year, Pat was asked to attend meetings in Westminster with MP Shaun Woodward – who was Minister for Creative Industries and Tourism – to talk about levels of support for the UK’s music industry.

The project has also attracted praise for its work promoting Yorkshire artists and record labels at international music conferences such as SXSW in Texas and in Cannes.
