MR Shiraz frontman Mikey Baird is celebrating after he was nominated for a top rock award.

He is up for the title of Frontperson of the Year at the Pure Rawk Awards 2013.

The annual awards are hosted by Pure Rawk, one of the country’s top independent music websites for unsigned and independent rock, metal and punk bands. And Huddersfield’s finest is up against some stiff competition, including legendeary frontman Ginger from the Wildhearts.

Mikey said he was deeply honoured to be considered for the award.

He said: “I’m totally stoked to be nominated for best frontperson.

“It blew my mind when I found out and especially to be up against someone like Ginger!

“I remember seeing the Wildhearts on Top Of The Pops, quite a few of my friends see him as a God.

“What makes it even sweeter is that AshTV, also from Huddersfield, are up for best video for the one they made for Eureka Machines.

“We know Ash well, he’s a good friend which just means the actual night is going to be all that messier.

“Huddersfield versus the world!”

The other nominees are Krissie Kirby (Triaxis), Marc Eden (The Peckham Cowboys) and Scott Lee Andrews (Exit_International). The awards take place in London in March and voting is open online at www.purerawk.com
