CELEBRATED Hollywood biographer Charlotte Chandler sets the record straight in this intimate portrait of film legend Joan Crawford.

Her colourful life has been well documented in the past and was damned by Christina in best selling memoir Mommie Dearest.

Chandler finds another truth in conversations with another daughter, Cathy, who told her: “Our mommie was the best mother anyone ever had.”

Bette Davis, who had a career-long rivalry with Crawford had another view.

Chandler writes: “Joan never understood why Bette disliked her...Bette said what she valued most was sincerity, a word Miss Crawford did not know.”

The author had candid interviews with Crawford herself and allows the star to speak in her own words in order to present this brand-new look at the screen icon.

Crawford admits: “I didn’t get life right all of the time, but a lot of people would make more mistakes if they had as much opportunity to make mistakes as I did.”

It’s a fascinating and well-rounded biography which reveals a lot about its subject.
