THEY are the concert tickets on many people’s Christmas wish list.

And now, Huddersfield Choral Society has decided to break with tradition and sell tickets for two of its most popular town hall concerts through the Kirklees box office system.

The decision marks quite a change for the society which has, in recent years, sold seats for its public Messiah through a ticket application system.

Those seats, along with tickets for the Choral’s popular Christmas concert, go on sale at the Kirklees box office for the first time on Monday.

The change has come as a result of the choir’s work talking to its audiences and supporters.

Times have changed and the society feels that the Kirklees booking system offers concert-goers more flexibility and choice in securing the tickets they require.

You can turn up in person, buy on-line or by phone using all the usual methods of payment.

It offers more people a chance to hear the sound of this remarkable choir and to know in advance whether they have got the tickets they wanted.

The Christmas concert is on Friday, December 7, at 7.30pm and features the Brighouse and Rastrick Band and Huddersfield Choral Junior Choirs.

The public Messiah performance is on Wednesday December 19 and in addition to the Huddersfield Choral Society will feature world class soloists and the Northern Sinfonia under the baton of Martyn Brabbins.

Tickets for those two concerts are available from Monday from the Kirklees box office on 01484 223200 or www.kirklees.gov.uk/townhalls

Before all of that, there is a further opportunity to join members of the Choral, though this time in far less formal style.

Picnic and Proms has become something of a Choral treat.

It was staged first as part of the fund-raising efforts to mark the choir’s 175th anniversary and proved so popular that it’s back.

The venue is the North Light Gallery, Armitage Bridge. The date is Saturday, October 20, and the aim is to have a relaxed night of music – and of course, a picnic.

They will provide the music, you take along your supper - and your plates and cutlery. Tables, a bar and tea and coffee are all available.

There will be contributions from individual members of the Huddersfield Choral Society, Huddersfield University Big Band and three young soloists from the Choral’s Youth choir, who sang at the Olympic opening ceremony.

Expect to hear music from Carousel, Oklahoma, Westside Story and Les Miserables – with Lehar and Paganini also on the bill.

The Choral is even featuring its own ukulele player, tenor David Ward.
