IF you fancy seeing how a new picture might look over your mantelpiece there’s an unusual chance to do so at the moment.

Because alterations are taking place at Brighouse Art Gallery members of Brighouse Arts Circle have switched their annual exhibition venue to the premises of Artisan Fireplaces in the centre of town.

Just over 100 paintings can be seen on three floors, looking for the most part as if they are in a domestic setting.

There’s plenty of variety in this show. Bill Wells has a fine large oil of Venice (right), with delightful reflections in the canal, while on a much smaller scale Brian Edwards has a evocative acrylic, In the Old Town, Rhodes, with splendid use of perspective, colour and detail.

Heidi Farrar’s realistic animal sketches include Alpha Bite and Faded Black Alaskan Wolf. Maxine Ringrose’s pleasing pastel, Sturminster Newton Mill, Dorset, has delicious colours and reflections.

Pat Brassington’s Rainbow Dolphins brighten the exhibition with their vivid colours, while Matthews Evans familiar sunsets at sea seem to be getting darker (or is it the lighting?)

June Johnson has created two elegant Edwardian couples, which sit nicely around her painting of the Ritz Ballroom, Brighouse.

The exhibition runs until the end of the month.
