TAKE an orchestral adventure into the music of Britten, Ravel and Sibelius in Dewsbury next week.

Two Kirklees concert season favourites, conductor Elgar Howarth and pianist Ian Buckle, join the Orchestra of Opera North for the concert at Dewsbury Town Hall on Thursday.

Elgar Howarth is a trumpet player turned highly acclaimed conductor.

Elgar was brought up in a brass band family which fuelled his passion for conducting and composition from an early age. He has conducted many leading orchestras in Britain and worldwide and was guest conductor at Opera North for three years in the 80s and returned in 2002 as music advisor for a further two years.

Pianist Ian Buckle is widely admired as a soloist, accompanist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist and teacher. He made his London debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1996 and has given numerous recitals at UK festivals since.

Ian is a regular on BBC radio and television.

The Orchestral Adventurers concert will include Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G and Sibelius’ Symphony No.1 in E minor.

There will be the regular pre-concert discussion in the main hall at 6.40pm for concert-goers.
