THE individual musical skills of Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra’s players are in the spotlight this season.

Step forward the orchestra’s horn section (Nick Barber, Judith Stones, Kylie Long and Bob Shaw) who will be centre stage at Huddersfield Town Hall tomorrow.

They will feature in a rare performance of Schumann’s Konzerstuck for orchestra and four horns almost a century to the day after its first performance in England. Principal horn player Bob Shaw described it as “the Everest for horn players” and colleague Judith Stones said it was a piece she had dreamed of playing since she first heard it as a child.

The programme includes work by Beethoven and Schubert. Tomorrow’ s concert starts 7.30pm.
