MATTHEW Bason was just 17 when he first played a concert at the Rex in Elland, making him one of the youngest musicians ever to play at the venue.
On Sunday, Matthew makes his tenth appearance at the Rex.
“Matthew was unknown when he first came to the Rex,” said Charles Morris, the cinema’s proprietor.
“I suggested to the audience that we might be about to listen to another maestro of the future, and I think this has unquestionably turned out to be the case.”
Matthew’s interest in music started when he was seven, with formal lessons.
He began cello lessons soon afterwards and was quickly recruited for his school’s string quartet.
But it was a visit to the Tower Ballroom in Blackpool when he was 10 that got him hooked on organ music. Four years later he played in public for the first time.
Hear this talented young player on Sunday at 2.30pm. Tickets are £4.
