SINGER Clare Teal returns to the Lawrence Batley Theatre later this month with her name firmly up in lights as one of the biggest stars in jazz today.

Little wonder that Huddersfield Jazz is promoting Clare’s March 28 gig as a special and that the concert plays not the Cellar venue but the LBT’s main house.

This is one singer guaranteed to have the ‘house full’ signs out.

Clare has swiftly become one of the hottest tickets on the jazz scene.

Michael Bublé and Jamie Cullum have both praised her glorious voice and Michael Parkinson played her songs on radio and featured her on his TV chat show.

Clare is on tour to celebrate the release of her album, Get Happy.

Her concert programme mixes new material plus versions of great American songbook classics.

The Skipton-born performer says her teenage years were dominated by the music of the 30s, 40s and 50s instead of 80s pop music.

Clare learned organ, clarinet and piano before studying music at Wolverhampton University.

She made three albums with independent label Candid, but her breakthrough came with Don’t Talk, five years ago.

Since then, she has won many awards including British Jazz Vocalist of the Year three years in a row.

Her timeless voice, engaging personality and the promise of new songs brings crowds back time and again.

Clare is supported on tour by topline musicians including Jim Watson (piano), Simon Little (bass) and Chris Dagley (drums).

The music begins at 7.30pm. Tickets on 01484 430528.
