HERE IS a rare opportunity to see the work of two leading Pennine artists.

This new and exciting exhibition with its powerful views of the landscape both artists love, opens at North Light Gallery this weekend where it runs until July 27.

For Alan Dalgetty and Jeff Beaumont it is an expression of their shared passion for the Pennines and a delight for them as friends to be sharing an exhibition space in the cafe area at North Light in Armitage Bridge.

The idea for the joint exhibition came when Jeff was demonstrating at North Light Art School where Alan is a tutor.

Both felt that their styles would complement each other and their focus on all things Pennine could prove to be a popular focus for the exhibition.

Jeff, who was born and still lives in the Holme Valley, has always enjoyed getting up on to the hills and moors.

“I particularly enjoy capturing the old farms and barns” he said.

“Some of the barns have seen better days but are full of character and charm.”

Jeff has exhibited throughout Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and beyond and is planning a book of his work which is to be published later this year.

Alan was born in North Yorkshire but has lived in the Holme Valley for 40 years. He too has a passion for the local landscape.

“My work is unlike Jeff’s” he commented.

“He paints very realistically and depicts specific places and scenes, whereas I create paintings based on my impressions and feelings about the many different scenes and moods of the landscape that I see every day.”

“It’s a privilege to be sharing an exhibition with Jeff. He’s been a hero of mine for ages.

“He’s a friend and has become a drinking buddy so that’s even better!

“We talk about all sorts of stuff and it is good to be sharing this exhibition.”
