ORGANIST Peter Jebson (pictured) takes the console for the concert at the Rex in Elland on Sunday, October 19.

Peter was born in Blackburn, though his family moved to Blackpool soon after and he says he has been “beside the seaside” ever since.

His musical education included a period as a chorister, piano lessons from the age of seven and pipe organ classes at 10.

He also played accompaniment for school hymns.

At 16 Peter became a church organist, a job which he did for 12 years despite being tempted by the sounds of the Blackpool Tower Wurlitzer.

Reginald Dixon became his inspiration and he also received a good deal of help from Dixon’s successor, Ernest Broadbent.

Peter started work in a bank but rapidly changed direction and began a graduate course at the Northern School of Music in Manchester.

This enabled him to play at the Odeon and Gaumont cinemas and paved the way for broadcasts and recordings.

This is Peter’s sixth visit to the Rex. The concert will include a short film novelty. Admission is £4 and includes entry in a raffle.

Robert Wolfe plays at the Penistone Paramount at 2.30pm tomorrow. Tickets are £6.50; phone 07944 566972.
