THERE’S a feast of music in store at Meltham next weekend, thanks to a Last Night of the Proms-style mix of brass and voice.

Meltham and Meltham Mills Band will be joined in concert at St Bartholomew’s Church on Saturday, October 11 by much-admired local soloist Jane Hobson.

The band will open the programme with Roy Newsome’s Pateley Bridge March and will include music by Strauss, Philip Sparke, Sibelius and Edelman.

The finale will include Parry’s Jerusalem, Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Elgar’s Pomp And Circumstance No 1.

The band’s soloists will include baritone player Aaron Fawcett alongside euphonium players Chris Farrington and Rebecca Carter.

Jane Hobson will be accompanied by John Bailey. She will sing much-loved pieces by Puccini and Bizet, as well as a clutch of show tunes by Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein and Jerome Kern.

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7.30pm, are £6 including tea and biscuits. Proceeds from the concert will be divided between the band and the church.

Pay on the door or get tickets in advance from Scotty’s Barbers in Market Place, Meltham.

The band will hold another fundraising event, a Wine and Wisdom Night, in the church hall at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 1. Tickets are £5 and if you want to book a team call Alison Eastwood on 01484 358451.
