YOUNG musicians and singers from Huddersfield University will take part in a concert with real popular appeal next week.

The concert at St Paul’s Hall, which is on the university campus, is on Thursday and will open with a performance by the University Symphony Orchestra.

The orchestra, led by student conductors Edward Broom and Helen Cowen, will play Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture and The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by French composer Paul Dukas.

In the second half of the concert the orchestra will be joined by the University Choir to present Carl Orff’s mammoth piece Carmina Burana.

Tickets are £6 (£3 concessions, £2 for students or free for music department students) from 01484 472426, or on the door. The concert begins at 7.30pm.
