We’re happy with our lot in Huddersfield.

And it seems people across Yorkshire share the belief that it’s a great place to live and work.

It appears it might not be so ‘grim up north’ after all, with the North Yorkshire spa town of Harrogate being named the happiest place to live in Britain.

Huddersfield was listed as the fourth happiest place in Yorkshire, beating Leeds, Wakefield and Bradford in Rightmove's Happy at Home survey.

And the top four happiest places to live in Yorkshire all share the initial H - Harrogate, Hull, Halifax and Huddersfield.

The survey of more than 50,000 people asked how contented they are with their home and local community.

With rising property prices and a reputation for unfriendliness, London residents reported the lowest levels of satisfaction, with the ten least happy places to live in the poll all in the capital.

Yorkshire vs London - reasons our green and pleasant land trumps the capital

Last year, Sheffield was crowned the happiest city to live in the UK, in a separate study by Transform Cosmetic Surgery Group.

Rightmove said Harrogate came top out of 111 towns and cities in the survey for safety, its sense of neighbourliness and recreation.

The survey looked at a number of issues which included how a home was decorated, the value of the property, the feeling of wellbeing at home and the costs of running a home.

Other factors taken into account included safety, local amenities and recreation options.

Huddersfield was ranked 16th overall, but made the top ten in Great Britain for decor and costs, and also scored highly in the value, neighbourliness and well-being categories.

However the town came 88th out of 111 in the contentment and space rankings, and was ranked 51st overall for safety.

Halifax pipped Huddersfield by five places, coming in as the 11th happiest place to live in Great Britain.

Wakefield was the 62nd, Leeds the 79th and Bradford trailed in 98th place in the Rightmove table.
