AMERICAN saxophonist Ryan Muncy, one of the rising stars in the world of contemporary music, plays in Huddersfield on Monday.

Ryan is the executive director of Ensemble Dal Niente, a Chicago-based contemporary music ensemble.

He is also a founding member of Anubis Quartet, a modular saxophone ensemble committed to reshaping the saxophone quartet genre, and has given world premieres of over 115 new works for saxophone

This top-line musician will be at the University of Huddersfield on March 11 and 12 for a guest artist residency.

It will include a solo recital at St Paul’s Hall on Monday (7.30pm) which is likely to include works by Giorgio Netti, Klas Torstensson, Chaya Czernowin, Evan Johnson, and Aaron Einbond, as well as collaborative sessions with student composers.

Next Thursday, (March 14 at 1.15pm) there is a performance in the university’s Phipps Hall by drummer Craig Blundell.

This is a demonstration on behalf of Roland, a world leader in the design, manufacture and distribution of musical instruments. Craig gives drum clinics internationally on the company’s behalf.

His profile has been steadily growing over the past few years and he is now much in demand across the world either recording, performing live or on drum clinics.

Later that same day, in St Paul’s Hall at 7.30pm, there is a concert by the University New Music Ensemble
