Gadget addicts prepare to be overjoyed as the Amazon Echo speaker launches in the UK today - two years after its US release date.

The voice activated gadget can play music, read emails and even order an Uber.

It will cost £149.99 and is available to buy on September 28, but you can pre-order the device now.

Amazon Prime customers get £50 off dropping the price down to £99.99.

The speaker works by connecting to your home Wi-Fi and listening to its owners voice - the recognition system is called Alexa and rivals Siri in being a virtual assistant.

The Echo can turn on lights, read audio books and check the weather all through its voice recognition systems.

It has a 2.5-inch woofer inside, alongside a 2-inch tweeter and Bluetooth.

There are already three different devices available to buy in America including the Echo, the Echo Dot and the Amazon Tap.
