Christmas Day has arrived, and sitting under the tree is that brand new games console you asked Santa for - lucky you!

But as you tear open the box and feverishly wait for the set up to complete, you realise you don't have a clue where to start with games.

With access to a host of free-to-play characters, this classic fighting game is a must for your library Over-the-top action combines with great graphics and killer moves for endless fun - you can even play online multiplayer. Of course, you can spend real world cash to speed up actions and buy premium characters - but the free base game has more than enough to keep you entertained.

A follow up to the 360s Happy Wars, this charming little RPG supports up to four players. Set in a bizarre world overflowing with comical characters, the game's witty, upbeat storyline is never short of a surprise or two. The level of customisation is impressive, as is the gameplay.

Ever wanted to ride a dragon into battle while wielding a sword made of bacon? Then this is the game for you. Trove is an MMO (massively multiplayer online game) which allows you to live out your weirdest dreams. Go looting for epic treasures, explore strange new pirate-infested worlds, or simply build your own kingdom. And don't forget your Rainbow-grade 3D glasses of insufferable doom.

SMITE


This is where the gods gather to settles their differences. This online battleground pits a diverse cast of deities against each other, each with unique powers to bring to the table. Putting you in the thick of the combat, SMITE is good for up to ten players online. If you really wanted to, you can spend real cash to add to your heavenly cast of characters - but there's already more than enough free-to-play content here.

DC Universe Online

Choose your side - hero or villain - and join the fight alongside some of DC's biggest names. You have the freedom to create your own character, explore the streets of Gotham City, investigate the mysteries of Metropolis, and dip your toes into the darkened corridors of Arkham Asylum. As an XBOX ONE player, you'll also get exclusive items to use in game.
Be aware that this game is a biggie to download - around 35MB - and depending on your connection that could take a few hours! It's well worth it, but just make sure it won't take you over any data limits you may have with your internet provider.

Life Is Strange: Episode One

A jolly little game to keep us in the festive spirit. If you've played Dark Souls, then you have some idea of what you are in for here. The aim is to get to the top of the Tower of Barbs, avoiding Uncle Death and the body collecting Jackals. Hack, slash and slay your way to the top - a word of warning though, this is not a game for youngsters.

Isn't it everyone's dream to drive a tank? Maybe not, but this is the game to help you fulfil that fantasy.

This multi player mech combat game helps capture the feeling of piloting a heavy war machine. Choose between lightweight assassin-like mechs or wade into the thick of action with heavy bruiser mechs - each fighter is unique. Action is fast paced - but slows down a little the further into the game you get. Well worth your attention.

Another battle arena title worth adding to your list.
