THE delightfully titled Jimbo Productions are back at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield with two new plays written by Stan Sharp.

And you’d be right if you think the writer’s name is familiar – especially if you’re a sports fan.

Stan is the commercial sponsorship manager for Huddersfield Giants. He was encouraged with his writing by an inspirational seminar at the Galpharm Stadium, where he works.

His two plays – Last Chance and What’s a Girl Worth – will be performed under the umbrella title of Yorkshire Mixtures.

Last Chance, performed last year by Halifax Thespians, tells how two old friends solve a difficult dilemma.

The second play, a premiere, features a birthday present which causes marital confusion.

Planned performances in the LBT’s Attic Theatre from February 6 through to February 9 were soon fully booked, but Jimbo Productions have now arranged an extra production on February 5 (7.30pm).

James Sykes is producer and director, having previously acted with theatre companies in Yorkshire.

He has directed for Huddersfield Thespians and is due to direct their Humble Boy in April.

Jimbo began life in 2000 with the aim of combining good exciting theatre with helping needy charities.

They have produced three Noel Coward cabarets and in 2006 toured with Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads in the Dales after staging the work at the LBT.

Proceeds from Yorkshire Mixtures are to be divided between Huddersfield Royal Infirmary’s special care baby unit and Netherthong Playgroup.
