WHAT could be better than to spend a summer afternoon out in the fresh air listening to a brass band?
Kirklees Council clearly agrees for it has again organised a programme of open air brass band concerts around the area running from June through until early September.
“Kirklees has an excellent reputation for top class brass band concerts. Throughout the summer our parks and museum gardens become venues for a season of brass band concerts in the open air to delight both the serious music follower as well as family audiences,” said Cabinet Member for Leisure and Neighbourhood Services Cllr Liz Smaje.
The bands on show will include Slaithwaite, Yorkshire Traction and Honley Band, Emley Brass Band and Hade Edge Band.
The concerts are free and you can check out the details on times and places by email: email@example.com or visit: www.kirklees.gov.uk/brassbands or call 01484 222087.
The concerts begin in Holmfirth on June 1 when Slaithwaite Band plays at Holmside Gardens, between 1pm and 4pm.
On the following Saturday, June 7, Yorkshire Traction and Honley Band will be playing in Green Park, Heckmondwike (11am-2pm); Emley Brass Band are lined up to be at Greenhead Park in Huddersfield on June 15 (1pm-4pm); Golcar Band heads for Crow Nest Park at Dewsbury on Sunday June 22 (1pm-4pm), while Shepley Band is at Oakwell Hall (1pm-4pm) on June 29 as part of the garden party event.
