THERE is a real musical treat in store at Salendine Nook Baptist Church next weekend when a host of young musicians gets together to celebrate Christmas.

Huddersfield Wind Band with its musical director Adrian Baxter lead the festivities on December 22.

This celebration of Christmas music is part of a series of concerts held at the church from September to June and hosting a series of music ensembles.

Sharing the concert programme with Huddersfield Wind Band next weekend is Switch – a pair of musicians who trained at the Royal Northern College of Music.

They are saxophonist and singer Ellie Pike and percussionist Harry Meredith.

Ellie graduated this year after studying saxophone at the RNCM.

She teaches, is in much demand as part of a classical saxophone quartet and is also a regular soloist in premieres at the RNCM.

Harry finished his degree this year. His wide range of musical skills means that he has recorded with RNCM’s Big Band and Symphony Orchestra, playing with world-renowned artists such as Guy Barker and Rob Buckland.

He also plays extensively in the world of classical music and has worked with the Halle Orchestra and plays regularly with the Leeds Sinfonia.

Both have just finished a tour as part of the five piece Young Thriller Band at the heart of the Forever Michael show which played Huddersfield Town Hall.

The band was led by Harry Meredith and was packed with other young musicians including Ellie who share his super musical talents.

Switch play a wide range of musical styles and instrumental set-ups.

At Salendine Nook they will be taking a new look at the traditional repertoire.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £6 (accompanied children free). To book, call 01484 655749 or 01484 654536 or pay on the door.
