THE PM takes time off from running the country to relate 11 stories of the extraordinary courage shown by ordinary men and women in World War 2.

Some are stories of decisive action taken in the searing heat of combat – such as Company Sergeant Major Hollis of the Green Howards, who stormed a pill box single-handed. Others reveal constant bravery over a period of time – such as physics teacher-cum-bomb disposal officer John Bridge, who defused bomb after bomb between 1940 and 1945, knowing there were no second chances.

Each story of guts and courage is told with style and understanding. Released in good time for Remembrance Day, royalties from the book are being donated to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the Jennifer Brown Research Laboratory.
