MIKRON Theatre Company never seem far from the water, even when they are touring on land.

The Marsden-based company splits its year touring for most of the summer on the country’s canals in its narrowboat Tyseley.

In the autumn, they head back on to dry land to tour regional venues, many of them in the Pennines.

Catch up with them on their latest journey at Shelley Village Hall tomorrow for Tales Of The Thames, a show that is all about a subject close to their heart – a journey on water.

It seems that it is not just Ratty in the classic story Wind in the Willows who longs to row on the great river Thames when spring arrives.

Mikron has spent 38 years touring the country’s rivers and canals so who better to guide us on a journey on Old Father Thames.

Join them tomorrow for an entertaining scull along the greatest of our waterways in the company not of Mole, Toad and Ratty but of another loveable but hopeless trio, Mr Itchington Scrattit, Ab and Roly.

Their journey begins in pastoral Gravesend where tugs once plied their trade carrying cargo from around the world to the port of London. Mikron’s own blend of storytelling mixed with live music will learn about the Thames as it flows from the exclusive reaches of Henley and its Regatta, past the Houses of Parliament and shadowed by Big Ben, to the busy, working area of the Isle of Dogs and Eastenders territory.

The next sailing departs at Shelley Village Hall tomorrow at 7.30pm sharp. Tickets are £9 are available from Shelley Stores, ring 01484 604486 or on the door. There is a bar on board.

The show is written by, directed by Vashti MacLachlan with music and lyrics by Jim Woodland. Musical director is Rebekah Hughes.
