PUT together an exciting group of performers intent on sharing a powerful piece of storytelling and the town’s theatre looks to be the place to be next week.

Angel Exit Theatre arrives at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Monday with Moonfleet, a new adaptation of J Meade Falkner’s classic coming of age love story.

If you like your theatre to be inventive and theatrical then this web of stories spun by a straggling gang of buffoons washed up on the shores of a ghost village at Chesil Beach is definitely for you.

Local fishermen conjure up fearsome ghost stories to keep inquisitive youngsters away from their smuggling haunts, but orphan John Trenchard is beguiled by tales of Blackbeard’s hidden diamond.

What follows is a gripping adventure story told by Angel Exit in their trademark physical theatre style.

Expect physical theatre, puppetry, strong ensemble storytelling and live music from an original score.

The story is rooted in Dorset and weaves together some of the stories, legends, sea shanties and the area’s hidden history.

The sets are even put together using driftwood, ropes and shells all gathered from Chesil Beach and the soundscape includes recordings of tides off the beach breaking on pebbles.

The company was founded eight years ago by graduates from the Ecole Lecoq. It was based originally in Dublin but has relocated to the South West.

Angel Exit is co-directed by Tamsin Fessey and Lynne Forbes and uses a shifting group of performers all with a shared passion for physical theatre.

Performances continue until Wednesday and the LBT box office is on 01484 430528.
