HALIFAX Thespians claimed four awards at the Skegness Drama Festival.

They performed Flamingoland, a play by Huddersfield’s Deborah McAndrew.

Deborah had attended the Playhouse in Halifax when the play was presented there earlier in the month.

Connected with Northern Broadsides she is an actress, singer, writer and played Angie Freeman in Coronation Street for several years.

Flamingoland was judged the best play of the festival with other awards for Julie Johnston (best actress), John Davies (best male supporting actor) and Karl Eaton (best sound and lighting).

Play director Derek Smith is delighted with the play’s reception at the Festival, saying it proved once again the high standard set by the Halifax Thespians.

Flamingoland has also been entered in the Wakefield Drama Festival this week and hopes are high for further success there.
