HUDDERSFIELD Thespians is one of the oldest amateur theatre companies in the region.

It was founded in 1920 when James R Gregson, manager of the town’s Theatre Royal came up with the idea.

The first production, an adaptation of Moliere’s The Mock Doctor, was staged in Greenhead Park as part of the carnival.

Since then, the society has staged over 500 productions, that’s a staggering 3000 plus performances.

For the last 16 years it has been based at the Lawrence Batley Theatre where its latest show opens on Tuesday.
