IT IS one of the best known stories in Shakespeare and where better to stage the dramatic tale of Romeo and Juliet than in the classic setting of Oakwell Hall.

Chapterhouse Theatre Company return to Birstall next month for a fifth year with a new open air production of the tragic lovers which will be staged in the visitor centre courtyard at Oakwell Hall and Country Park on June 17.

The performance is part of a 21 venue national tour which will keep the company busy until September. It is the only one scheduled in West Yorkshire.

The company first visited Oakwell in 2005 and its shows have proved so popular that they have been invited back each summer. The productions feature large casts in traditional costumes and with an original musical score.

Audience members are invited to picnic in the walled gardens behind the hall from 6pm on the evening of the performance which begins at 7.30pm. And if you want to sit during the two hours plus show, then take a seat with you.

Tickets are £12 for adults, £11 senior citizens and £8 for children and students. Call 01924 326240.
