THREE award-winning Yorkshire poets – one from the Huddersfield area – will read from new collections at the Ilkley Fringe Festival next Friday.

Julia Deakin, (pictured) who lives at Flockton Moor, Andrew Boobier and Pauline Kirk invite their audience to take along their own work and read short poems of their own too.

The launch of these three new poetry collections is at Ilkley Playhouse’s Wildman Studio at 9pm and is free.

“We are all very different poets and there should be something for everyone,” said Julia.

She started writing poems when she moved to Huddersfield and saw an Examiner ad for a poetry MA course.

This year she won the last competition to be run from Huddersfield by the Poetry Business and has taught at the university.

Her poems are described as dark and wickedly funny and tackle relationships, the environment and some of life’s knottier questions.

She is also set to read at next year’s Literature Festival in Huddersfield.

Julia’s collection of poems, Without A Dog, is published by Graft at £5.95.
