SING and see the world. Holmfirth-based ladies choir Vocal Expressions is certainly starting on that journey with a four day cruise from Southampton to Cork.

Doubtless there will be plenty of singing on the way. The choir was formed 12 years ago by Catherine Williams and an annual week-end away workshop has been organised to learn new music.

These workshops have taken place in such places as Scarborough, Llandudno and Chester. But with a successful visit to the Ukraine under their belts, the ladies decided to try and combine a workshop with another foreign visit.

Michelle Pendleton, one of the younger members of the choir, suggested a mini cruise and the rest - is set to become choir history.

Enterprising Michelle has arranged for the choir to spend four nights on board Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas, one of the largest cruise liners in the world. The choir will sail between the south coast of England and Ireland’s west coast.

As well as workshops, the choir will be giving a concert on board thanks to Michelle’s negotiating skills. She contacted the Royal Caribbean's Cruise Director in Miami who after hearing the group’s latest CD, arranged for them to sing on board, thought to be a first for non-resident performers.

If you’d like to join the choir, rehearsals are on Thursdays at Holmbridge Parish Hall at 7.30pm. Foreign travel can follow.
