SINGERS from Colne Valley Male Voice Choir are heading back to Cornwall next spring.
But the choir will not be going back to defend the title they won at the Cornwall International Male Voice Choir Festival last year.
The choir returns to Cornwall as guests of the festival and will be involved both in concerts and in workshops as guest show choir.
The Colne Valley men are delighted by the opportunity to go back to Cornwall, where they found great camaraderie among the competing choirs last year when they won first prize and were judged overall best choir.
The choir’s best previous performance had been to pick up second place at the festival in 2005.
Next year Thom Meredith, the choir’s musical director, will adjudicate at the festival.
It’s why the choir decided not to compete next time round and so they were particularly pleased to have been invited to lead workshops and to sing at a gala concert in Truro as well as in other regional concerts at Newquay and St Ives.
About 60 choir members are expected to make the trip and they will stay in Newquay.
Next year’s festival will be directed by Peter Davies, the MD of Huntingdon MVC following the retirement of Dr Roy Wales.
