IT IS a concert that puts a spring in everyone’s step with its lilting waltzes, polkas and marches.

Join the musicians of the Orchestra of Square Chapel for its now traditional New Year Family Concert.

You’ll have to wait until Sunday January 8 for this afternoon concert where the celebrations for New Year are provided courtesy of the music of the Strauss family and their contemporaries.

The orchestra is a mix of professional, semi-professional and gifted amateur players.

Under the direction of composer and conductor Lawrence Killian, the Orchestra has a reputation for innovative programming with several world premiere performances to its credit. The orchestra was played on Radio 3 as part of the Listen Up Festival of British and Contemporary Composers.

They will play this traditional concert at their home base in Square Chapel Centre for the Arts in Halifax.

And to help put the celebratory feeling into the event, the concert ticket price will include free sparkling wine or fruit punch.

Look out too for the orchestra’s return on Sunday March 11 for a spring concert featuring internationally acclaimed harpsichord specialist Alan Cuckston playing Bach, Beethoven and the world premiere of Dick Blackford’s Harpsichord Concerto.
