First up is Scarborough Seafest, a weekend-long celebration of all things maritime, and host to a real ale festival run by the Great Yorkshire Brewery.

But it's not just about the beer. The festival, running Friday July 24 to Sunday July 26, offers fun for all the family, with live music, seafood cookery demonstrations by top chefs, rock pooling sessions, street entertainment, arts and musical workshops and more.

Organised by Scarborough Borough Council with Welcome to Yorkshire and the Create agency, the festival also includes a traditional blessing of the boats!

On Saturday and Sunday the festivities begin at 10.30am, with mouth-watering food stalls to try, as well as arts and craft stalls — rounded off with a grand fireworks display at 9.45pm.

If you don't want to drive, you can catch a train to Scarborough direct from Huddersfield which takes one hour 43 minutes.

The last return train leaves at 22:07, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the festival.

Further up the coast is the Whitby and District Lions 2015 Beer Festival, Thursday July 30 to Saturday August 1.

Head to the Whitby Mission and Seafarers Centre in Haggersgate (a five minute stroll from Whitby Beach), and sample a few of their 30 real ales and ciders.

The 6th annual festival aims to raise money for local charities and causes, including the Whitby Lions Disability Scooter Programme and diabetes awareness.

The Whitby and District Lions Beer Festival tankard

Entry costs £5, including a commemorative festival tankard, programme and one beer token.

Public transport from Huddersfield to Whitby can take between three and five hours, so a designated driver may be your best bet — or why not make a weekend of it and stay in a hotel or B&B?

And don't forget the best thing about seaside beer festivals — fresh fish and chips to soak up the ale!
