The weekend is just around the corner, and if you're at a loose end today, we've got some ideas for some Thursday thrills.

Budding writers can show off their literary skills, and Simon and Garfunkel fans are in for a treat.

Plus if you've got some free time today, you could do something that could save lives!

Here's three events happening in West Yorkshire today:

  1. Poetry and prose at Dewsbury Library - Budding writers can share their own work and get inspired by others at a free Live Mic Night at Dewsbury Library this evening. Hoping to have the same success as similar events at Huddersfield Library, the open mic night hopes to offer a platform for writing talent across north Kirklees. The night begins at 6.30pm - bring a poem and story to share or just take a seat and listen.
