The Tour de Yorkshire will speed through the streets of West Yorkshire today as the Halifax to Leeds leg finishes four days of thrilling races.

Today will see the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire enjoy a grand finish on the Headrow in Leeds city centre - ending at the same spot the Tour de France began in 2014.

Today's 189.5km route will begin at the iconic Piece Hall in Halifax, with Hebden Bridge, Haworth, Skipton, Masham and Otley.

Riders will whizz past Kirkstall Abbey before sweeping into Leeds city centre for the final finish line.

Follow our liveblog for live updates as the peloton passes through some of Yorkshire's most beautiful countryside for the final day of the four-day event.

Belgian in poll position

Greg Van Avermaet, a 32-year-old Belgian cyclist, is now in the virtual race lead. He went into the day second overall and has been helped by his team into a solid position today. In the last few miles he decided to break out and the Rio 2016 Olympic gold medallist now looks a heavy favourite for the blue jersey.

10km to go

Stephane Rossetto is on the outskirts of Leeds now. The Frenchman has led for most of the day and he must be absolutely exhausted but the stage win is now in sight.

How much does Rossetto have left?

In Otley they’re ready for the riders and wondering if Stephane Rossetto is still out in front. He is, but his lead is ebbing away and his cheeks are blowing hard. How much can he have left?

Tom Pidcock falls behind

The 18-year-old cycling prodigy from Leeds has fallen back from the chaser group to join the peloton, which itself is beginning to break up. It’s been a momentous effort by Tom but the hard racing of the last few minutes has proven just too much for the young man.

Rossetto takes King of the Mountain jersey... basically

Stephane Rossetto has taken maximum points at the Greenhow Hill climb meaning he is the virtual winner of the King of the Mountain red jersey. Max Stedman would have to perform miracles as the only man who can beat Rossetto - it’s not going to happen.

Race hotting up

Just coming down towards Pately Bridge now and the chaser group, including Leeds’ Tom Piddock, has started to race harder.

Britain’s Max Stedman quickly drops off the pace. Max has probably now lost his chance of a red jersey.

Sylvain Chavanel, a very strong and experience rider, breaks away at the front and the rest only just cling on to his coat tails.

News of the break makes it back to the peloton and they too begin to push harder.

Meanwhile Stephane Rossetto keeps the same pace out in front.

Now the race is really hotting up!

The race for the overall win explained

It seems Stephane Rossetto, way out in front, is just going for the King of the Mountain win. He would need to stretch out one massive lead.

The real race for the overall Tour de Yorkshire winner is now between two groups. First is the chaser group which includes 18-year-old Leeds lad Tom Pidcock and a number of other potential winners - all of them more experienced than Tom.

3.17 behind that lot is the main group, containing the current leader of the Tour, Magnus Cort Nielsen, and his team.
