It's an American tradition that could bag Huddersfield shoppers a bargain or two in the run up to Christmas.

Black Friday is back for another year, with sales, deals and discounts to snap up — and, if last year is anything to go by, chaos at department stores and supermarkets across the UK.

When is Black Friday?

This year Black Friday is on November 27 2015.

Why do we have Black Friday?

Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year in America and is a trend that has made its way across to the UK and now most UK retailers introduce sales, deals and discounts on this day that are similar to the Boxing Day sales.

In America, the shopping phenomenon is the day after Thanksgiving and gives shoppers the chance to bag some brilliant deals before Christmas as it marks the day when most people start their holiday shopping.

Why is it called Black Friday?

While the colour black can be associated with negative connotations, in this case black is positive and means profitability.

Traditionally, profitability was noted down in retailers’ books in black, while losses were noted in red.

Are Black Friday deals online and in store?

Usually, retailers will put their Black Friday discounts online as well as having them in store, but it is more popular in stores and usually draws in huge crowds to the shops with people queuing up outside long before they open.
